What to wear on a Central Park carriage ride

Dress for New York weather. Carriages are open-air with covers; cooler months include blankets.

Wear clothes suited to outdoor New York weather. The carriage is open-air with a cover, not a climate-controlled cabin. Layers and comfortable shoes work in every season. In cooler months, blankets are provided. Evening rides feel colder than the same day’s afternoon temperature.

All seasons

Avoid brand-new shoes you have not walked in. You will board from a city sidewalk and may walk to a photo location if your package includes a stop. Sunglasses help on bright winter days as much as in July.

Winter

Wind on the park drives is the main comfort issue. A coat you can close at the neck, gloves, and a hat matter more than a formal outfit that cannot take a blanket over it. If you are dressing up for a proposal, add a warm layer you can remove for photos.

Summer evenings

Afternoons can be hot; after sunset the air cools. A light layer in the bag is more useful than dressing only for the hotel air conditioning.
